Marketing has undergone a massive revolution over the last decade and I’m still amazed to at how many so-called marketing experts in Adelaide have fallen behind the times. Because they’ve failed to keep abreast of technological changes they are unable to do more than scoff at online marketing strategy, to the complete detriment of their clients.
In my various networking activities I’ve frequently heard the name of one of my competitors; a marketing consultant who has been in the game for many years and advises an impressive array of high profile clients in Adelaide and sits on a few boards. I recently tried to Google him to find out more about who I was competing with.
I was flabbergasted to learn the fellow doesn’t even have a website, let alone a well managed web presence. In other words the Google results included the usual slew of online directories who have copied his details over from his yellow pages listing and a bunch of PDFs about committee meetings and newsletters from government departments.
Good for him to be able to keep feeding off his relationships with public servants and senior executives who don’t know better. Thanks to the system he has worked over so well, no doubt he will eventually quietly slip into a comfortable retirement along with the bulk of his clients.
